Project-based learning is essential to learning within a technical theatre classroom. Students get the chance to participate in hands-on projects that give them the opportunity to learn by doing. My students use different resources to create models to see how their ideas will work out in the end product. By participating throughout the entire creative process my students get the chance to have ownership over their learning and see how it can be impactful to a production.
These skills are then used to benefit the entire school, through the school play.
What they learn in class gets to be used for the school as my students work on creating projects that are used during the school production. The students become much more engaged in their learning as they see their work being used for the entire school. This pushes them to create better work than they ever thought possible. Pushing them to be more engaged than they ever have been.
