These materials will help make a difference in student learning. Having relevant, current materials engages a student to connect and read a book. This engagement develops opportunities to read and be exposed to many types of scenarios.
These students, if they choose, will be able to check out a book from the classroom library. They will be allowed three weeks to read the book.
Throughout the year, my students are asked to read a book independently each month. I also allow reading time weekly and if they finish other assignments early, almost daily. Having time to read and books ready available gives students the benefit to develop higher reading skills.
