I am taking the LETRS Class provided by the state of Utah. I am learning a lot more about the importance of phonemic awareness and oral language, especially, during the kindergarten years. I will use my mirrors to help my students watch and learn how to move their lips and mouths to make the 44 phonemes in the English language.
I will use the letter and sound tubs for hands-on experiences to teach beginning sounds, blends, digraphs, and vowels in a variety of ways to meet the needs of individual students. These items are versatile because they will also be used for counting syllables and phonemes and for writing sentences, both in small groups and then in centers. The alphabet letters will be used to translate the sound they hear into letters. I will use the story puppets for retelling to help develop oral language. These puppets are versatile as well because I can also use them in sequencing and writing activities.
My students and I will benefit from these materials because they will help me implement the skills I am learning in the LETRS class and help develop a better foundation in my students.
