My students are active learners. For most of them, this is their first year in a public school setting. Over the past few years, most of them have not had as many opportunities to play with other students. At the beginning of the year I noticed a big decline in the social interaction of my school and an increase in anxiety with my students. Creating a classroom with hands-on activities can help these students create a supportive classroom community which can help them with their separation anxiety.
Due to school closures many children need extra support in developing their social skills. By having hands on activities that encourage group interaction, students can develop regulation and communication skills that may be lacking.
