I have 32 diverse students who attend a low-income, diverse school. This project will allow me to introduce new and exciting books that we will read as a whole class and at home.
We will turn this into a book study experience where students can find their passion for reading! Reading together as a whole class allows me to model reading with expression and gives students an opportunity to practice immediately.
I have selected sets of diverse books for my class. My students come from various backgrounds, and being able to see themselves as main characters in stories is critical. Relating to stories leads to deeper connections and comprehension which is a life skill I'd like all my students to have. Reading diverse books will also teach students to accept and appreciate each other.
