I currently teach English and yearbook/journalism. One complaint I get from students is that nearly everything we do to prove understanding has to be written. I want to change that a bit and offer them opportunities to tell a story, either their own or someone else's, through video journalism.
My students love getting out of the classroom and proving understanding of course content in more creative ways, and video journalism is a perfect way to tap into that creativity. My hope is that by providing them with resources like a GoPro, students can begin exploring ways to bring stories to life. I would be able to use this to promote that yearbook through highlight videos of the year, as well in English classes to push students beyond the traditional essay.
