Having a “kitchen on the go” station in my classroom will give me the opportunity to diversify the ways I can present culture to my Spanish students. This is not only a benefit related to language but in an interdisciplinary opportunity where students can learn more about nutrition and food safety as well.
Cooking in my classroom will allow my students to compare and contrast the cultural perspectives of Hispanic countries through food - the most relevant cultural aspect of any society! The ability to provide cooking opportunities in my classroom will better address the Cultural Products and Practices, Perspectives, and Interactions standards for the Spanish 1-3 courses.
Many of my students haven´t had the chance to visit local restaurants to try Hispanic food. With the opportunity to cook in class, I can give all students the equal opportunity to open their vision about eating, speaking, and interacting through different cultural perspectives.
