My students need books. In many instances, my middle school students avoid reading, refuse to read, and cheat through assignments requiring reading. These actions, if uncorrected, could cause them to miss out on the many lifelong benefits available to those who read often. Students must learn to read and comprehend a variety of texts proficiently. Reading is the foundation for academic success. Reading opens the door to potential career opportunities. Reading also provides meaningful personal enrichment. When students do not practice reading, they do not develop the skills necessary to be successful academically and in many other aspects of their lives. In short, reading is a catalyst for success in students' lives.
