COVID has hit the morale of my students which has hurt their motivation when it comes to learning about Science. These hand on materials will hopefully make Science more engaging as well as benefit other areas of our curriculum.
Using these materials will help my students reach their full potential and have an opportunity to work with materials that they normally don't have access to.
The 3-D magna tiles can be used in both Science and Math, for building models and discussing the attributes of the shapes. In our curriculum we learn about magnets and force so we can use the magna tiles to apply these concepts in our classroom. The sphero robot can help my students practice the effect of force on different builds that we create. The Legos and straw builders will help my students build models of climate patterns in different regions of the world, and create solutions that reduces the effect of weather related hazards. All of our standards include a problem solving aspect and having access to these hand on materials will help my students stretch their creativity while problem solving.
