My project is to help students at our school have a safe place to cope with stress, emotional issues and mental health concern. Students who I work with deal with depression, anxiety and other emotional and behavioral concerns. My students will find a safe place in "My Space for Calm" where they can use the tools developed through this project to provide the best ways to cope. Most of my students have experienced some sort of trauma in their lives and this project will further develop their ability to develop relaxation techniques and practice cognitive coping.
I use games to explore their understanding of emotions and social situations. I also use fidgets and manipulatives to distract students who feel anxious and use them as a way to be able to feel comfortable with opening up about things. We also will use other tools to practice mindfulness to further bring calm to their lives.
