One of the toughest challenges that students in our community face right now due to Covid-19 is apathy. Why should I try? As a teacher my goal is to find ways to engage students and create excitement for learning. Experiences make the difference in student engagement. When students see things they have never seen before they may have their interest peaked. When they hold something new or look at something they've seen before in a different way they begin to engage. Engaged students do better in school. Engaged students show up. Engaged students persevere. Engaged students have hope. Please help me engage my students by helping them see microscopic and abstract concepts and processes happen in real time using blue tooth sensors and apps on the two iPads being requested. Students often struggle to see how the microscopic world relates to them and the iPads can be used to project microscopic images, collect and store experimental data and connect with sensors that allow for the collection of oxygen, carbon dioxide and other gases in biological processes. Using the iPads camera students who have to participate in distance learning due to COVID-19 can feel that they are included in the laboratory experience as they see real time result and can participate with their teacher or on-campus partner using the microscope and other sensors. Please help me to help my students engage in learning for a better future by showing them that they can learn to use scientific tools, make hypothesis and develop solutions for a better world.
