Many of my students are reluctant readers. They have struggled with reading and are behind in their reading skills. I want to build students reading comfort and help them engage as a class community using books. While I have a class library, my students are more into graphic novels and scary stories, which are lacking in my library. We share with each other doing book talks and other community-building experiences which require putting good books into their hands.
I also want to build a shared class learning experience using the novel, Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief. We tie this novel into our social studies learning about ancient Greece. In order to provide for health and safety, I would like to have a copy of the book for each student to use.
Finally, we do a lot on our digital learning platform. Many of my students can't afford headphones, which will help boost their learning allowing them to hear text read to them and use resources such as speech to text for my students who struggle with writing.
