Rewards are a great way to motivate student learning and behavior. Rewards are not only earned individually but also by working as a class. Our classroom has a Desk Fairy who drops off little messages to students who keep their desks clean and orderly. Third grade is an important year where kiddos become more responsible for learning organizational skills. The desk fairy loves to stop by and say nice work staying neat. Another motivator is personalized "Shoutouts" to kiddos.
Allowing students to write stories on their laptops and to create the illustrations is beneficial to all students especially to those who have difficulty writing due to fine motor limitations. When students choose text color and are able to see their illustrations in color they are more eager to create final writing pieces.
Our Compliment Cup is a great way to encourage students to work together and to demonstrate expected behavior procedures. Once our cup is full students vote on what they would like to have for a reward. Hot chocolate and popcorn is always on the ballot and we need the microwave to make that happen.
