The more students read, the more their academic performance increases. The students that are product of COVID-19 learning have had their time and resources limited in the classrooms and at home. They have not had the opportunity to process what has happened to them academically and socially in a way that will help them learn and grow. I believe that giving them literature, both fiction and non-fiction, that helps them make that connection to emotional and social empathy will make them better readers and writers as they move forward into their remaining years in high school.
