My students are eager to learn-- however, a field trip to space for our science unit is out of the question, though it would be out of this world! These materials of globes and a solar system model will showcase the movements of the moon, sun, and earth while they interact one with another. It will also allow students to have a tangible understanding that is accurate. These will help my students to see, create, and engage with live models as they learn abstract and unfamiliar science principles. They will be able to interact with globes, lights, and ecosystems in a tangible way with the resource of a self-sustaining ecosystem. We have seen a self-sustaining ecosystem in videos and pictures, but they would LOVE to see the algae and brine shrimp in action. These materials will be used in science lessons to allow students to draw their own solar system with labeled parts. The ecosystem will allow for students to see the imperative parts of a food chain and describe the energy transfer from each part.
Other items to be funded are dry erase markers, magnets, heat plates, magnetic beads, geoboards, magnetic wands and counters, and more. These items will aid targeted skills in phonics, science energy experiments, and geometry.
Also, help my students control their focus with fidget-friendly solutions that will allow these kids to stay engaged for long periods of time (especially after shortened online lessons- it is hard to come back and stay motivated for a full day of learning)! Coming back to full-time school is what they have been missing, yet it requires more focus and discipline to stay on task without grand distractions. I have requested fidget bands and chair wobbles to allow quiet movement.
