I teach ESL, English as a second language to students in grades 7-8. All my students come into the classroom at different levels of language acquisition, whether English is their first language or second language. Being able to acquire language through communication is an important and vital way to build vocabulary and sentence syntax/fluency which then correlates into their writing. Learning through structured games helps students of all levels of language acquisition build their vocabulary and think critically all while having fun. The book set will help students as they not only learn vocabulary, but see gain perspective through the lens of another diverse character. Being able to provide diverse literature in a diverse classroom allows students to see themselves and connect to the characters as well as allows the students to view another's life which may not be like their own.
