Utah core standards require fluency in speaking and listening. Most of my students do not have family who can model English skills. In light of COVID 19, students need additional supports for learning at school and home.
Read-alongs allow students to hear correct pronunciation, intonation, and fluency while also seeing the words. With the use of personal CD players, read-alongs offer correct modeling of reading, writing, and speaking skills while developing listening skills, at school or home.
To further develop speaking, headsets pick up quiet, hesitant students. Students will share about their reading using Flipgrid. They can review their own speaking and that of peers. Headsets further develop speaking in Imagine Learning as I listen to responses and give feedback.
