Students love to support their communities, and show off their skills! Students would use these instruments to not only learn the percussion fundamentals, but be very actively engaged in their learning. Learning cadences and percussion ensemble work is a very active an hands on activity, which students crave at their point in their development. Most of the students that attend our school are in some way financially disadvantaged. My goal is to provide them with an opportunity that they can access for free, with no barriers of any kind. The snare and bass drums will be used daily in class to teach drum line skills, rhythm reading, basic rudiments, and even a school cadence. The students have expressed their wants for drum line style instruments. This would enable them to involve themselves in a positive learning experience, and an experience in music education. Some students want music education, want to learn, but don't identify with band, orchestra, or choir. These instruments are the key to reaching some of the harder to reach, and get them excited about learning music!
