With the materials that I have selected for my classroom, my students this year and in the upcoming years of my career as a teacher, will have adequate tools to help them learn new things. Because of the time and learning that was lost due to our shutdown, students are well behind in their grade levels and performance. Students are not keeping up with the common core in math and reading because of the distractions from learning at home.
I believe that giving them an opportunity to have fun while they learn is key to their success. Our students thrive on gaming and other means of entertainment, in having games where they learn but have fun would help them greatly. I would be using the math manipulatives and games in centers after they have learned and mastered the content.
By giving them new books to read and choose from, I believe sparks their interest because I emphasize the importance of reading and give them ideas on books to check out. I think that the other materials will also help with their understanding and comprehension in stories as well as grammar.
