Nearly 40% of my bright, resilient students suffer from some form of mental illness. The majority of these students have been diagnosed with ADHD. As a result, they struggle to sit still in a traditional desk/chair environment to learn. They often require movement in order to focus. This often manifests itself in disruptive movements to the other students in the class.
Due to the inconsistent learning environments and experiences of these students during the COVID-19 pandemic, many of these students have not been required to sit still in a school environment everyday to learn. Many of these students have spent a significant amount of time learning from home with little or no structure. As a result, they are finding it increasingly difficult to sit still in class. Therefore, I would love to provide seating options that allow them to have some slight movement while they work, without being disruptive to the other students.
