The requested resources will provide students who do not have access to reading material at home to take books from the classroom library. A number of students entering my class for the first time after the pandemic were significantly below their reading grade level. A classroom library would support and challenge these students by allowing them to explore various authors and genres that are at and above their grade level.
With your donation, you will be providing multiple children the opportunity and resources to increase their reading comprehension and fluency as well as help them to develop a love for literature. Currently, an analysis of federal data shows that there has been no improvement in reading performance in any grade level in over a decade. This has unfortunately become the result of a growing number of children who have yet to develop basic levels of phonemic awareness, comprehension, vocabulary, and fluency. This number continues to steadily decline. With students losing almost a third of a year in reading during the pandemic last year, this resource is needed now more than ever.
