These rewards and reading games will continue to motivate my students to reach their reading & communication goals. My students earn these rewards and game time by earning points from their reading & vocabulary lessons and communication opportunities in my classroom. I award my top five students of the week and provide a reward for any student who has leveled up in their reading lessons.
These rewards, games and graphic novels motivate my students to go the extra mile in bridging their reading gaps. Many of my students complete extra reading & vocabulary lessons at home (not assigned as homework) in order to receive these rewards. My students have achieved 1 year's worth of reading growth since I have implemented rewards and reading games in my curriculum.
The graphic novels will help increase interest in reading. I plan to book talk each graphic novel purchased. I use graphic novels to get my students interested in reading and interested in a certain genre. From there, I provide novels with main characters close to their age, experiencing similar life/home situations or similar interests as my students. The purpose of this project is to make reading a positive experience and provide a positive & safe classroom community through rewards, reading games and graphic novels.
