Much of my instruction involves hands-on learning and materials, as well as school supplies. This type of learning is best suited for kinesthetic and visual learners who retain knowledge better from examples, or applicable skills. Some examples of the activities we do in the classroom using these resources or materials include things like, making wanted posters for vocabulary words, use scratch art to describe a setting or summarize a reading. Our novel studies often include skits, arts and craft projects, visual poetry, and infographics. Before the pandemic, we often shared supplies and a lack of resources wasn't as critical. However, due to the Covid pandemic, we cannot share supplies and frequently don't have what we need to complete these activities. Some of these items are for science lab experiments. We use everything from baking soda to digital scales. In addition we use supplies for note taking, highlighting data, and whiteboards for formative assessment. To reward students and keep them motivated, they earn "money" for store every other month. Students have to have completed work, participation points, complete jobs within grouping, and show acts of kindness and responsibility to earn their money. These children have endured more than they should have, I hope you'll help me offer them all I can, and a quality educational experience!
