In our classroom, we learn about destructive testing. This tester will allow the class to make new material and then test it to find its ultimate strength. The plan will be to have the student make nylon or other synthetic materials in their chemical engineering unit then they have to braid and twist with other materials to make a composite string that they can make into a fabric that the tester can test its strength.
This tester also allows compressive testing. We could also test the Rockwell hardness test on some softer materials as well.
