The pandemic has unfortunately widened the achievement gap between at-risk students and their more advantaged peers. Some students learning from home have had to do so while managing the care of younger siblings, working extra hours, or going outside the home for internet access.
With over half of students at CHS reading below grade level, it is imperative that teachers offer student-centric, diverse books in their classroom libraries. This book selection offers a range of Lexile levels and covers diverse topics: race, LGBTQ+ issues, coming of age, immigration and/or the refugee experience, and war.
There is no gift like reading. There is no more vital skill than literacy. Let them read books!
