Many students are overcoming the challenge of breathing and speaking with masks on, so an air purifier will improve their chances of staying healthy and staying in their classroom. During the recent challenges facing schools, safe environments and hands-on learning have been taken away. Breathing is a basic need for everyone, and contributing to their health is essential for them to be able to attend class. Hands-on learning, which includes electronics, books, pencils, pens, and paper, helps students engage in the lessons. By using tactile, auditory, and visual supplies, the students increase their engagement in the lessons. I like to guide them through the creation of a life map; we use markers to draw the symbols of their life. Mountains represent challenges, bridges are changes, and birds are their future goals. After they brainstorm their life map, they write an autobiography and then publish it in a brochure format. I print color copies for each of them to save and share with others. It is a creative and rewarding project that helps them reflect and celebrate their lives. I have always loved reading and writing, and I know that literacy and learning are ways to open the world of possibilities for the teens who attend language arts at Dixie High School.
