Although my students are curious and excited about learning, they are more excited about playing. One of my heroes, Fred Rogers, said, "... for children, play is serious learning. Play is really the work of childhood." STEAM activities might seem like "play" to children, but they are really doing some "serious learning."
As my students learn about science, technology, engineering, art, and math with these hands-on activities, they will also be learning critical thinking and problem-solving skills. For example, providing students with blocks will help them learn how to visualize, plan, organize, and construct what they'd like to build.
STEAM activities are a perfect way to encourage my young students to develop a lifetime love of learning and exploring.
