I teach at a rural, Title I school where classroom supplies are limited. My students try their hardest every day, but I have learned that not all students learn the same. Students come with varying interests, learning styles and face many challenges in and out of school. My little firsties come with diverse backgrounds and many mixed abilities.
My students love to read books, build and create masterpieces, and use their imagination while learning!
As a first year teacher, that was hired after the school year started, my classroom is lacking many items needed to give my students the quality of education they deserve. The items that I am requesting will allow my students to have supplies that they can call their own instead of sharing with the classroom. It will help teach them responsibility and increase active learning in the classroom. The books requested will help to fill our bookshelf so that students will have a variety of genres to read and not always have to rely on their library books. Having sensory based centers will increase fine motor skills - skills many are lacking since the pandemic. The easel will allow me to hold small groups and teach from our carpet.
These students have already struggled in light of the Covid pandemic. Many were not able to attend school in years past and therefore our classroom is building the foundation of school for them. Having our own supplies will cut down on germs being spread amongst each other, as well as provide a sense of individuality, pride, safety and comfort in the classroom!
