I am a new resource teacher this year. Throughout the year, I have been trying to find books that are interesting to 4th-6th graders, but are easier to decode. Most students in Resource struggle with either decoding or comprehension. I am hoping that the books I have picked are of interest to my students, but are easier to read and understand.
Since being at our elementary school, I have noticed how many students in resource want to fit in with their general education peers. With a significant portion of the funds I have requested, I have also purchased some Battle of the Books novels. As we work on decoding and comprehension skills in resource, students will hopefully be able to feel more included in a major event at the elementary school.
Most students in resource do not enjoy reading. I am hoping to help students gain interest in reading by showing them new books that are fun, exciting and meaningful to their lives.
I have purchased multiple copies of books. The goal in our class would be to have small book clubs as we work on comprehension, decoding, and a love of reading!
Thank you for considering our project. I am grateful for this opportunity and these funds.
