The listening center will be used in our Daily 5 rotations. Students need daily practice in reading and comprehension. This listening center will allow more students to listen to reading. This school is a Title One school. I have many students in my room that are struggling to learn to read. This listening center will provide stories from many different genres, helping them grow in their working vocabulary and background knowledge which is vital for reading fluency.
Listening to someone read helps young students learn about reading fluency, prosody, and appropriate pauses. A listening center will provide daily practice skills while offering a wider variety of reading activities which will make our Daily 5 more successful each day.
This will help to raise reading fluency, listening skills, and comprehension which will help more students achieve success in reading and make them ready for second grade. My desire is to give my students every opportunity to learn to read!
