Students have gotten a raw deal over the last few years. Add in a constant state of quarantine and sickness and it's been rough. In addition to this, because of our financial restraints, so many of our supplies are so old that tape is literally holding them all together. Books are falling apart, whiteboards are old and stained, Science supplies are used up or dried out. There are many supplies that we just couldn’t afford to have enough of for our class, like digital scales and microscopes.
We got a new science core last year and one of the concepts is to look at items close up that you can’t see with the naked eye. We have only had 1 microscope to do this with so only 2 students at a time get to use it. How great will it be to let the whole class look up close at snow crystals, carpet fibers, paper, drinking fountain (gross but awesome!) and more. Hands on science is so fun and engaging and really makes students excited about being at school, especially when they’ve had to be at home either because of sickness or quarantine. My Students cheer when it’s time for science and these new materials will make science that much better
It would be wonderful to make all the old things be new again to give these Covid exhausted students the sense that they are so important to be able to use new items. Students deserve the best we can give them when it comes to supplies and most importantly our time.
