I am a first year teacher and I am teaching a funnel class where I have three different periods of students rotating between three teachers. In my class I teach English Language Arts and this project would provide students access to a wider variety of books in my classroom. I recently received a small grant which I used to purchase a Roald Dahl book box set. I have had this set in my classroom for one week and I've already had several books borrowed and read in that time. The addition of new books will help students explore a variety of literature and hopefully expand their interests and knowledge. With the pandemic students have had limited time in school, in libraries, and even things like book fairs didn't occur.
The second part of this project is to provide alternate seating in my room. Each day I have 60 different students rotating in and out of my room and several of them would benefit from a wobble chair. Many studies have shown that depending on the student, a different type of chair, or standing desk can be of great help in their ability to learn.
