These materials will give my students the opportunity to learn the vocabulary in context from stories. The tangible materials such as the animals, muffin tins, small food sorting toys, and bins will help my students learn how to describe and categorize items more effectively and stay engaged.
These materials will help with specialized instruction and carry over with the concepts targeted in the core curriculum. For example, when a targeted story is read in therapy, vocabulary that is targeted in the curriculum is utilized to help the students infer what the word means based on the context of the story. The story can be used to help describe the characters and identify some of their similarities and differences. These are all skills that are targeted in language therapy sessions to help improve the individual's verbal and written language as they communicate their needs and wants.
I also have materials to target social skills for students with pragmatic language delays. These include stories and games like catch the fox, jumping jack, and pop-up pirate which are great for turn-taking and conversation scenario skills in a small group.
Lastly, I have some articulation cards, an abacus, and fidget toys which are helpful during speech therapy lessons. Some students have sensory needs that need to be met to be able to get their work done and an abacus and fidget toys would be helpful for that. Articulation cards are great to have access to target words based on the phonemes/sounds each student may need to work on.
