The materials I requested will provide a hands-on learning experience for students. Teachers did their best to provide a hands-on learning experience while students did their learning online; however, they still experienced loss with their learning.
The materials will provide students with the opportunity to feel and work with the loss they experienced. Over multiple lessons, they will practice the process of addition and subtraction using a walking number line. During this lesson, I will instruct students to practice the process that addition is the process of going forward and subtraction is the process of going backwards. Throughout this lesson, I will also use a large number bond to reinforce the strategies they are being taught in class. Students will use counting bears to show that two parts of a number make it a whole number. This is important for my students as they are resource students and some of them do not understand through lectures and require a hands-on experience. They try hard and are excited to be back in school after the school closures caused by Covid-19. These resources can provide them with that opportunity!
