Throughout the course of a school day, there are many things that students must navigate in order to be successful at academic learning. Some of the most stressful things for my students are activities or environments that overstimulate their sensory processing centers. Students could spend less time in meltdowns and more time learning if they had a spot that they could go to cool down at the beginning of sensory overload instead of waiting until it causes a full-blown meltdown. Catching sensory overload early is the holy grail of special needs learning.
