These books will enhance student writing development, fluent reading and allow student choice. Students will get to choose a historical figure with an age-appropriate text. They will write a multi-paragraph essay about their historical figure, and create a presentation art piece. Students will use public speaking skills to present their project to their peers and parent at open-house night. This will help engage students in writing, and history, and inspire them to read more informational-type texts. When students have a choice in their subject matter, they exceed expectations in retaining information.
