The tools requested, mixer, air fryer, blender, etc. are directed to help each student learn how to live more independently. Learning to prepare their own food, wash dishes, and do laundry are life long skills that will allow my students to contribute to their future households - whether in a group home, living with family, or in their own home.
Practicing and developing interpersonal communication by working together can help their social-development and build teamworking skills that can be used in the home or workplace.
Over the past two years we've seen how education and schooling are greatly changed by the effects of COVID-19. The skills we want these students to learn will always be a necessity for them. It is critical our students learn them in a place that is safe, supportive, and where they are encouraged to grow.
