The "Coffee Cart" project provides essential learning for some of our special education students who can benefit from being introduced to vocational skills. Once a week our students come together to work the coffee cart to "sell" real items including hot drinks and cookies to staff free of cost (to encourage staff involvement.) These skills, taught in this manner through the coffee cart experience, are highly motivating and meaningful. The skills being learned will, over time and practice, carry over into other parts of their academic and functional learning. These skills include social and language skills, fine motor and executive function skills, safety/hygiene awareness, and concepts of business management. The coffee cart is a weekly highlight to the students participating and the staff, bringing to the Cherokee Heights community a sense of joy and pride.
