My project is hoping to give my students, and our school as a whole, a full class set of a Shakespeare classic! My students are going to analyze how rumors and perception can affect reputations. We will use this as a place to start these hard conversations.
High school is hard, and it hasn't gotten better since we were in school. Any slight wrongdoing--or perceived wrongdoing--can make or break someone's reputation. Reputations are fragile, but more importantly is how we as people tend to tie our self-worth with our reputations and how others view us.
In this classic play, a misunderstanding and subsequent rumor destroys a young woman's reputation. We are going to use this play to have the greater discussions surrounding things so relevant to the lives of teens in any age; self-worth, rumors, assumptions, and reputation.
