The resources I am requesting will directly help students, as it will provide a calm, relaxing environment for them when they feel overwhelmed. Having a comfortable place with different calm down tools is essential during times of unprecedented stress.
It will allow students access to books and activities to learn skills to deal with anxiety, anger, frustration, or any of the other emotions they are experiencing as they live through this pandemic.
I will use these resources both individually as I work with students, in small groups, and in whole classrooms that I support to teach these skills to different students.
Many of the students I see struggle with and are working on emotional regulation goals- whether that be anxiety, anger, or attention and self-management. Students have to be in a calm, relaxed, ready to learn state of mind in order to proactively work on these skills. The resources I have chosen will help by 1) helping them reach this calm, ready to learn state of mind, and 2) actively teaching these skills through individual and small group lessons and activities.
Having a comfy, relaxed spot with bean bag chairs and pillows gives students a place to calm down when they are frustrated, anxious, or angry. Kinetic sand is also a great tool for students to use to calm down, as it gives them something to do with their hands while they are thinking or while we talk. The books I have chosen will be used during individual and small groups.
