This year I moved into a classroom that has rubber flooring. This has been a huge blessing when it comes to student spills since we eat lunch in our classroom every day. However, it is also proving to be a challenge with keeping the environment clean. My students sweep and sweep and still, our classroom feels dirty. Since it is rubber flooring we track in stuff from outside nonstop.
We like to meet as a class on the floor to start our day with morning meeting. Then throughout the day, students are on the floor collaborating with partners and participating in lessons. We want to be able to have a clean floor for students so that they can work hard whether it be at their desks or working on the floor. Students would also love the opportunity to have this be a classroom job to help watch our robot as it cleans up.
This funded project would also help our custodians! Since there are so many classrooms to clean (especially with COVID) there is not enough time each night to clean desks, counters, sweep the floors, and mop. This would not only be beneficial to students but also to our very hardworking custodians.
