With the mounting board, mat cutter and paper trimmer I'm looking to equip my students with the ability to properly care for, crop, matte and display their work. My students' work desires to be seen. These supplies are essential to any Art room. They are, what I call, "equity-building supplies".
Everything I am requesting would be used for years to come including the mat boards. For our last project, we will be creating a self portrait. The large mat boards can properly display and redisplay eight images, in this case eight students faces. The amount I'm asking for and need would carry over to my photography classes allowing those students self portraits to be properly displayed as well.
Our hope is to have our much needed supplies by the end of the year, so we can display our work at the end-of-year school wide Art show. Our last project is going to be us, our faces. The students are the curriculum; their individual faces are the project. To quote the jury when they described photographer and artist JR - "By exploring the great capacity of Art to challenge perspectives and unite communities, his work, highlights the power of Art and the work of the artist, which makes visible and gives voice to those who do not have it".
Without the ability to display our Art, we have no voice.
