My students struggle with identifying and managing their emotions. Due to Covid, being out of school and the lack of social interactions my students are struggling more this year than past years. I have a spot in my classroom designated for students to use when they need a break to get their emotions under control, but they do not like going there. We call it the Chill Zone, but it is very unwelcoming and I would like to change that for them.
If I were to be able to make the Chill Zone a place where they enjoyed going it would help them to get back in control and back to work in the classroom. I am asking for comfortable chairs for them to sit on, a punching bag to help them get out strong emotions in an appropriate way. Weighted blankets help to regulate sensory processing. I am also asking for different sensory objects to help my students.
