My students were in the first grade whenever the COVID-19 pandemic started, therefore, they missed the last three months of a very crucial learning time. Naturally their reading and math skills were affected. I am doing everything I can to make up for the lost time, especially since we are preparing for upcoming state testing.
Hands on experiences in math, science, and ELA areas will help gain and maintain student engagement. For that reason I have asked for math manipulatives and stem manipulatives. For ELA I’ve asked for teacher resources that will enhance our current curriculum, as well as library books to add to our classroom library.
