Encouraging students to read during this current COVID-19 situation requires books that both inspire and entertain the students. Christopher Paul Curtis is an author that appeals to the students and gets them excited about the novel.
Having a set of novels by the same author will show students how much fun it is to have a favorite author and to read all the books they write!
This will help to increase their vocabulary which will develop their own stories and build on the richness of their narratives.
Students who are hesitant to read books that are unfamiliar will find encouragement in reading the set of books by the same author who wrote the book they loved.
The books in the set are both diverse and current. These books give students a perspective that may be different from their own and take place in a time they may not be familiar with.
