More than a third of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education.
The TI-84 Plus CE Graphing Calculators will be checked out by my students who cannot afford to purchase one due to the economic challenges put on their families by COVID-19. My students will be elated to receive their calculator that they can not only use in the classroom but can also take home to complete projects and assignments including but not limited to quadratic, exponential, and logarithmic graphs and regression models throughout the entire school year without being at a disadvantage.
The donations to this project will help my students have a meaningful understanding of the exponential rate of depreciation as well as the the total loan payments over the course of 5 to 10 years on two of their dream vehicles. Using the TI-84, they will compare graphs of the cost of two vehicles as they depreciate, then calculate regression models to find the total loan amount after 5 years, 7 years, and 10 years. This would not be possible during distant learning without your donation.
With the TI-84 Graphing Calculator, my students will see a real life example of the importance of saving money as opposed to paying mountains of interest and having unnecessary debt. They will finally answer their own question: When are we ever gonna use this? Thank you for making this possible!
