Right now, we only have a classroom set of the novel The Glass Castle. This set is shared by four different classes every day. Sometimes, if every student is present in my biggest class, we don't have enough books to go around. Getting another set of these novels will not only allow all students to be able to have the book in class, but it will allow students who have missed school to take a book home to catch up on what they have missed, and it will allow students who are working from home to check out a book and do their work from home so that they don't fall behind.
The students absolutely adore this book; I have kids who have said they usually hate reading, but they run to class to read this book because they love it so much. It's the first book they have ever fallen in love with. If we had more copies we could ensure that every student is able to finish the novel, even if they are unable to attend school every day. This one book could foster a love of reading for the rest of these students' lives.
