Flexible, sensory seating is beneficial for students who may have difficulty processing information from the world around them. Sensory needs are often unique to the individual. Movement may be comforting to one, while pressure is calming to another. Some students may be hypersensitive, leading to avoidance behaviors. Others may be hyposensitive, causing them to be sensory seeking.
Having a variety of seating options available allows the student to take control of their needs in a safe manner. The opportunity to engage in actions that safely fulfill their sensory needs will also allow them to focus and engage in active learning.
By donating to this project, you will be providing a multi sensory setting for individuals with unique challenges. The simple act of sitting in a chair that rocks or in a pod that applies pressure will allow these students to focus and be successful.
