Children have experienced a social deficit during the pandemic. One of the most important aspects of schooling for children is socialization. Lock downs and other remote learning qualifiers on education during the pandemic have emphasized the deficit between children with good social coping skills and those that may suffer difficulties. A fundamental part of socialization among human beings is play. The utilization of play therapy for children at this point is now more important than it has been before.
If funded, this project would help ameliorate the social and mental harms which have been induced by COVID 19. The school district suffers from a lack of materials to facilitate this type of therapy; therefore, this project seeks funding for additional resources. The items requested are specific games and materials that focus on social and emotional learning and skill building. Games include "emotional rollercoaster", the "rethink card game", and sensory toys for students to take to class with them who may suffer from attention deficit disorder or anxiety disorders.
We have seen an overwhelming number of students decline of emotional coping and learning difficulties since the beginning of the pandemic. Attendance has been at an all time low in the schools I have been assigned to. The hope is that students can learn to identify and work with their stressors by way of game play, boosting their self esteem and confidence, encouraging their want to come back to school. General socialization which children enjoy at school to help deal with some of these shortfalls would benefit from the targeted therapeutic advantages which these therapies provide.
