Throughout the pandemic, my students have shocked me with their ability to learn and grow despite all of the obstacles put in their way. We constantly talk about using our calm-down strategies and using tools to "get our bodies right" so that we are able to learn our best.
As we focus on social-emotional learning, I want to make sure that I can ensure that my classroom is a safe and comfortable place for students. By giving students a choice of seating that suits them best, and also providing safe options to help them regulate their emotions, I can reinforce the idea that school is a safe, welcoming place for them to learn and grow. And when a student feels safe and connected, they are able to make much higher academic progress as well.
